fix and flip electric problems

Electrical problems that are not repaired can lead to a costly or even dangerous situation. In the fix and flip business, you need to know quickly if a property has underlying wiring issues.

1. Circuit Breakers Trip Frequently

Modern homes are typically equipped with a circuit breaker that is designed to trip when a circuit becomes overloaded, preventing wires from overheating and possibly causing a fire.

If a circuit breaker trips frequently, it could be a signal that the circuit is overloaded.

2. Flickering Lights

If you notice that the lights throughout the home are frequently flickering or dimming, it could be a sign of a significant wiring problem. If the problem seems limited to one specific fixture, try replacing the light bulb to see if that fixes the problem.

Wiring problems that cause flickering or dimming require the services of a qualified electrician.

3. Buzzing

Outlets and switches should be silent. If you hear any buzzing, crackling or sizzling sounds coming from a home’s outlets, switches or appliances, turn off the electricity to the affected area immediately and call a licensed electrician.

4. Switch Plates or Outlets Hot to the Touch

Although an electric current can cause a switch plate or outlet to become slightly warm, it should never be hot to the touch. If you notice that your switch plates or outlets in the home are uncomfortably hot when you touch them, it may be a sign that they are wired incorrectly.

5. Sparking

If you observe sparking from your breaker panel, fuse box or an outlet, it is a sign of a serious electrical problem and should be addressed right away. The potential for fire damage is high.

6. Damaged Wires

Years of neglect can leave wires damaged and unstable.Wiring done with outdated materials can lead to wear and tear over the years. Also, rodents are known to chew on electrical wiring. If you observe signs that rodents are present, thoroughly check the home’s wiring to make sure there is no damage.

7. Burning Smell

The smell of burning plastic is very distinctive and can indicate the start of an electrical fire. It can be difficult to pinpoint the exact source of the odor, but a burning smell should not be ignored.
